Oakland is a Whole Child Award Winning School
During our 1st 9 Weeks Awards Day Program, the South Carolina affiliate of ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) recognized Oakland Elementary as a Whole Child Award Winning School. Each year, SC-ASCD acknowledges schools that promote the development of the whole child with specific attention to their five tenants: healthy, safe, supportive, engaged, and challenged. This year, Oakland Elementary won the award in the category of “challenged” for our attention to project based learning, vocabulary instruction, and our partnership with the Spartanburg Writing Project. Dr. Eric Levitt of SC-ASCD and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in Spartanburg District 3 presented the award and Mrs. Dawn Mitchell of the Spartanburg Writing Project assisted Dr. Patterson and Mrs. Skinner in the receiving of the award.
“In partnership with families and the community, Oakland Elementary School exists to prepare students for tomorrow’s world through various academic and social experiences within a safe, supportive environment.”
