TERRIFIC Kids 2012

On April 12, Spartanburg and Boiling Springs Kiwanis clubs honored Spartanburg County TERRIFIC (Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable) Kids of the Year with a catered luncheon and awards program. WYFF4 news anchor Geoff Hart was the featured speaker.

Nine District Two students, representing each elementary school and accompanied by family members, guidance counselors, and principals, received awards. They are pictured above with Superintendent Scott Mercer:

Front row, left to right—Adam Hitchens, Carlisle-Foster's Grove Elementary; Sydney Sanford, Mayo Elementary; Emily Kang, Boiling Springs Elementary; Eddye Martinez, Hendrix Elementary; Matthew Wood, Cooley Springs-Fingerville Elementary

Back row, left to right—Sarah Hitchens, Carlisle-Foster's Grove Elementary; Mya Graham, Boiling Springs Intermediate; Breanna Vick, Chesnee Elementary; Mason Morris, Oakland Elementary

The TERRIFIC Kids program promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. With teacher assistance, students establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships, attendance, schoolwork, etc. during a specific time period. The TERRIFIC Kids program provides teachers with a tool to reward students for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed.
